FIT 2.0 - The recommendations are inLast week, the Ministry of Energy released its recommendations for the future of the Feed-in Tariff in Ontario. They will now be molded into the legal language of the new FIT rules by the OPA. While the rates have come down as was to be expected, the government reaffirmed its support for the prospering of renewable energy in the province and garnished it with a stronger emphasis on community power. The rates: Solar PV rates will be reduced between 31% for smaller roof projects and 9% for larger ground-mounted projects. Wind sees a reduction by almost 15% across all nameplate capacities. Tariffs for bioenergy projects and hydro will remain as is. Community Power: Locally owned community power projects receive preferential treatment as 10% of the remaining contract capacity is reserved to them. In addition, their application process may be expedited through the newly introduced points system in which they receive the highest number of points possible.
